To create an experience, go to Experiences, click Add Experience, enter a name, add at least one variant, and click Save.
After you save, create a schedule so customers can book. See Set up a schedule for an experience.
Step 1: Add the experience
In your Shopify admin, open Experiences App.
In the left menu, click Experiences.
Click Add Experience.
In Experience name, enter a name. You can change the name later.
Click Continue.
Step 2: Add a description and images
In Description, enter what customers do, what is included, and what they need to bring (if anything). The description is optional.
Optional: click Add short description to add a short summary. The short description can have up to 500 characters. On Online Store 2.0 themes, you must add the Short description block in the theme editor to show it. See Add a short description and host to your experience.
In Media, click Add Media and choose one or more images. Each image must be a .jpg or .png file and smaller than 2 MB.
Tip: Add at least one clear photo of the experience. Customers see it on the experience page.
Step 3: Choose the location
In Location Type, choose In Person or Zoom.
For an in-person experience, enter the address in Address.
Step 4: Choose the pricing type
In Pricing Type, choose one option:
Pricing type | What happens |
Prepay | The customer pays when they book. Most merchants choose this option. |
Reservation | The customer books now and pays when they arrive. The customer sees the price when they book. You take payment with the Experiences POS app in Shopify POS. |
Free | The customer books and does not pay. You can turn on Allow cancellations. |
If you must charge tax on this experience, turn on Charge tax on this experience. Check the tax rules for your city or region.
Step 5: Add variants
A variant is what a customer books, for example "Workshop" or "Admission." Each variant has its own price. You must add at least one variant before you can save an active experience.
In Bookable Variants, click Create your first variant.
In Variant Name, enter a name. Customers see this name when they book.
In Price, enter the price.
Click Save.
Use a name that works for all dates and times, for example "Workshop," "Admission," or "Booking." Do not put a date, a time, or a holiday in the name.
Advanced: Use a variant for only some time slots
You can create a variant for only one time slot or one series of time slots. For example, you can charge more on a holiday, or on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Create the variant, for example “Holiday workshop.”
Turn off Activate on all current and future timeslots.
Create your schedule.
Open the time slot or series, and add the variant to it.
To add more variants, click Add Variant. For example, add a "VIP workshop" variant with a higher price. Describe what VIP guests get in the description.
When you add a variant, Activate on all current and future timeslots is on. This adds the variant to every time slot that exists now and every time slot you create later. If you turn it off, the variant is not added to any time slot. You must add it to each time slot yourself.
To change a variant, click the pencil icon. To delete a variant, click the trash icon.
Step 6: Set the number of spots
In Total Bookings Per Timeslot, enter the number of spots in each time slot. The default is 25.
Optional: to limit how many spots one order can have, turn on Edit min and max per order. Then enter Min bookings per order and Max bookings per order. For example, enter 2 and 6.
These are the default settings for every time slot. You can change them for one time slot or one series when you create the schedule.
Step 7: Save the experience
At the top of the page, click Save.
You see the message "Your changes have been saved."
If you see "Add a bookable variant to save this experience," add a variant first. Or click Save as draft to save the experience without a variant. Customers cannot book a draft experience.
Next step: Create a schedule
Your experience has no time slots yet. In the Schedule section, click Create Schedule. See Set up a schedule for an experience.
The schedule uses the time zone shown in the Schedule section. To use a different time zone, click Change.
