Add a short description and host to your experience

Show an optional short description under the product title and a host image and description on your product page.

You add a short description and a host on the experience page in Experiences, and on Online Store 2.0 themes you also add a block to your product page in the Shopify theme editor.

The short description shows under the product title on your product page. The host shows a round image and a description of the person who leads the experience. Both are optional.

Add the short description and host in Experiences

 1. In Experiences, go to the Experiences page and click the experience.

 2. Under Title, click Add short description.

 3. Enter the short description. You can add up to 160 characters.

 4. Below Media, click Add host.

 5. Upload a host image from your computer. The image shows in a circle.

 6. Enter the host description.

 7. Click Save.

Show the short description and host on your product page

What you do next depends on your theme.

Which theme do I have? In the Shopify theme editor, open a product page. If you can add a section to the product page, you have an Online Store 2.0 theme. If you can only add sections to the home page, you have a vintage theme. For more information, see Shopify's help article on theme architecture versions.

Online Store 2.0 themes

Note: On Online Store 2.0 themes, it is not enough to fill in the short description and host. You must also add the blocks to your product page.

 1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.

 2. Click Customize.

 3. At the top of the theme editor, open the product template that your experiences use.

 4. In the left menu, click Add block.

 5. Click Apps.

 6. Click Short description or Host info. To show both, add both blocks.

 7. Drag the block to where you want it on the page.

 8. Click Save.

Vintage themes and custom templates

You do not need to do anything else if you have one of our liquid themes that already has the proper code elements in the template. The short description and host show on your product page after you save the experience with that information filled out.

This is also true if your theme has a custom template that already includes the short description and host.

For developers: add the short description and host to a custom template

Experiences saves the short description and host in product metafields. Use these values in your Liquid template:

 • Short description: product.metafields.experiences.summary

 • Host image URL: product.metafields.experiences.hostImage

 • Host description: product.metafields.experiences.hostDescription

Check that each value is not blank before you show it. For example:

{% if product.metafields.experiences.summary != blank %}
{{ product.metafields.experiences.summary }}
{% endif %}

Remove the short description or host

 1. Open the experience in Experiences.

 2. Click Remove next to Short description or Host.

 3. Click Save.

On an Online Store 2.0 theme, the block shows nothing when the short description or host is empty. You can also remove the block in the theme editor.

If something does not look right

 • The short description or host does not show. If you have an Online Store 2.0 theme, make sure you added the block. Also make sure you added it to the product template that the experience uses.

 • The short description or host shows two times. Your custom template already shows it, and you also added the block. Remove the block in the theme editor.
