Learn how to pair, set up, and use a Socket Mobile S720 Bluetooth scanner with the Experiences App for fast and reliable guest check-ins.

Updated today

Overview

The Experiences App supports Socket Mobile Bluetooth scanners for fast, reliable guest check-ins.

Using a dedicated scanner allows your team to quickly scan QR codes from printed or on-screen tickets, even during busy events.

Recommended Scanner

Socket Mobile S720 (2D Bluetooth, with Dock)

The Socket Mobile S720 is the preferred model for most Experiences merchants. It reads both 1D barcodes and 2D codes such as QR, Data Matrix, and PDF417, making it ideal for ticketed events and experiences. At this time, the Experiences Check-In app only integrates with Socket scanners.

Buy it directly from Shopify’s Hardware Store:

Other Supported Models

If you already own another Socket Mobile model, the following devices are also compatible with Experiences:

  • SocketScan S700 (1D only)

  • SocketScan S740 (1D/2D)

  • SocketScan S730 (QR-ready)

All supported models connect via Bluetooth and integrate seamlessly with the Experiences Check-In app.

Setup Instructions

1. Charge the scanner

Fully charge your device using the included USB-C cable or dock before setup.

2. Pair the scanner via Bluetooth

  1. Power on the scanner by holding the power button until the LED lights up.

  2. On your iPad or iPhone, go to Settings → Bluetooth.

  3. Locate the device name beginning with “Socket S720” and tap to connect.

  4. The LED indicator should turn blue when paired.

If prompted to select a connection mode, choose iOS Application Mode in the Socket Mobile Companion app.

3. Connect to the Experiences Check-in app

  1. Open the Experiences Check-in app on your iPad or iPhone.

  2. Look for the scanner icon in the upper right corner.

  3. Once you click on that, you will be guided through connecting to the Socket scanner. You'll be prompted to download the Socket mobile companion app if you haven't already installed it.

    Download the app here:
    For iOS »
    For Android »

  4. Once connected, the screen will display Hardware Connection: Connected.

Using the Scanner

  1. From the Scan & Check-In screen, hold the scanner 4–8 inches from the QR code on the customer’s ticket.

  2. The scanner will beep, and you will see one of the following messages:

    • Checked In Successfully

    • Already Checked In

    • Invalid Ticket

Each scan automatically logs the attendee’s check-in and syncs the data to your merchant dashboard.

Troubleshooting

If the scanner will not connect

  • Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on your device.

  • Remove the scanner from your Bluetooth list and re-pair it.

  • Open the Socket Mobile Companion app to check for firmware updates.

If the Experiences Check-In app does not detect the scanner

  • Restart both your device and the Experiences App.

  • Reconnect via Bluetooth and reopen the Check-In tab.

If a ticket shows as “Invalid” or “Unrecognized”

  • Make sure the ticket was issued from your Experiences merchant account.

  • Re-sync your event data by pulling down on the event list in the app.
